Study
The study programs of the Faculty of Agrobiotechnical Sciences Osijek provide higher education through two types of studies: university studies and professional studies. Professional studies include the level of undergraduate studies, and university studies include three levels:
1) undergraduate studies,
2) graduate studies and
3) postgraduate studies.
Students of the Faculty of Agrobiotechnical Sciences Osijek enroll in the undergraduate university study of Agriculture with a choice of one of five majors:
- Agroeconomics
- Plant Production
- Horticulture
- Mechanization
- Zootechnics.
The above courses have been implemented since the 2005/2006 academic year. year, except for Horticulture, which has been implemented since 2008/2009. The undergraduate university study in Agriculture lasts three years. The first semester is mutual to all majors and consists of 6 compulsory subjects that enable students to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to continue their studies. The second semester also contains 6 compulsory subjects, 2 of which are joint for all majors, and the rest are mainly specialized for only one major or common to individual majors. During the second year, students take ten mandatory subjects of the major, and in the third year, four mandatory subjects, a subject of professional practice, four optional subjects, and a final thesis subject. Undergraduate courses, mandatory and optional, are one-semester, i.e. they are taught during the whole semester. The courses have a schedule of 45 - 75 teaching hours with 3 - 6 ECTS points. A student acquires a total of 180 ECTS points in undergraduate studies. Students who complete their undergraduate study can continue with graduate studiesxs or can get employed.
Graduate university studies in Horticulture, Organic Agriculture, Mechanization, Agroeconomics, and Zootechnics have been in progress since the academic year 2005/2006. From 2009/2010 studies in vegetable growing and flower growing and fruit growing, viticulture and wine growing in 2009/2010 year.
The graduate university study lasts two years and 120 ECTS points are acquired upon its completion. The Faculty of Agrobiotechnical Sciences Osijek conducts 8 graduate studies:

The first year of study consists of 10 compulsory subjects. In the second year, students in 3rd semester enroll in the compulsory professional practice subject and, in agreement with their mentor, choose four subjects from the common list of elective subjects of graduate studies at the Faculty of Agrobiotechnical Sciences, Osijek. In 4th semester, students prepare a thesis. Writing a graduation thesis includes a research paper where the student learns the basics of a scientific approach to analyzing professional and production problems, which includes data analysis and conclusion or can be based on the processing of literature data on a selected topic when presenting a review paper. Graduate study courses involve 75 teaching hours and 6 ECTS credits. Professional practice lasts 10 days (6 ECTS points). 30 ECTS points are acquired by completing the graduation thesis.
Graduate Study Program Digital Agriculture is based on the need to educate the experts from fields of agronomy, with the basics of information and communication technologies that are necessary for applying the new technologies, as well as the development of new technologies in agricultural production. The program is compliant with the needs of the economy and educational system, and it shows a significant step forward.
Postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Agrobiotechnical Sciences Osijek include a postgraduate doctoral study in Agricultural Sciences and 5 postgraduate specialist studies. The postgraduate doctoral study in Agricultural Sciences has been carried out since the academic year 2008/2009, and the participant acquires 180 ECTS points upon completion of one of the 8 courses of study (1. Agroeconomics 2. Agrochemistry 3. Plant breeding and Seed production 4. Plant Protection 5. Animal Husbandry 6. Animal Nutrition and Forage Technology 7. Hunting and Canine Science 8. Technical Systems in Agriculture).
The Faculty of Agrobiotechnical Sciences Osijek conducts 5 postgraduate specialist studies:
- Quality and Safety of Animal Products
- Production Systems in Animal Husbandry
- Pig Farming
- Agricultural Management
- Plant Protection
Postgraduate specialist studies have been conducted since 2008/2009 year, and last 3 semesters during which the participant acquires 90 ECTS points. An exception is the postgraduate specialist study in Plant Protection, which lasts 4 semesters and the participant acquires 120 ECTS credits upon completion.
The professional studies of the Faculty of Agrobiotechnical Sciences Osijek have been implemented according to the Bologna process model since the academic year 2005/2006. From the 2019/2020 academic year, students can enroll in the following professional studies:
- Horticulture, major: Agriculture
- Zootechnics
Professional studies last three academic years and upon completion the participant acquires 180 ECTS points. In the first semester, four subjects are the same for all professional studies, and two subjects are specialized for individual studies. During the second academic year, the student has 12 subjects, including 4 professional practice subjects, and in the third academic year, 10 subjects, including 6 professional practice subjects and a final thesis.
Students who complete their undergraduate professional studies can continue their studies at the graduate university studies of the Faculty of Agrobiotechnical Sciences Osijek, with the mandatory passing of additional exams depending on the chosen graduate university studies, they can continue their studies at professional graduate studies at polytechnics and universities, or they can get employed. The list of additional exams for professional bachelor's degrees is published on the Faculty's website and is available to students.
